The Innkeeper is Out (yes I do escape the B&B from time to time)

One of the great things about owning and running a B&B is all the great people you meet.  Sometimes some of these people end up becoming great friends.  One of these former B&B guests and now friends invited me to her birthday celebration in New York City this past weekend.  The world is a small place and its funny how things happen sometimes.

My friend Barb Ortiz invited me to her birthday celebration in NYC this past weekend.  The timing was perfect because I've been wanting to get into the city for a while now and for me wintertime in NYC is magical.  I love the cold crisp air and the smells of the street vendors.  New York always has an energy to it.

Barb was one of the first guests I hosted here right after I purchased the B&B in 2003.   She started out as a guest of the inn.  In time I became a client of hers.  She arranged several overseas trips for me as well as a few around the US.   In time we became good friends and now enjoy hanging out either in NYC or Atlantic City from time to time.   I want to give just a little plug to Barb.  She's an awesome travel agent and I would recommend her highly to anyone.  If you're planning a trip, give her a call at 212-944-2121 x 2122 or e-mail her at bortiz@tzell.com.  She works for the Tzell Travel Group.

So here's how small the world is....   I'm talking with another friend of mine, Scott, who also started out as a guest of The Carisbrooke Inn but over time became a good friend.  Scott lives in New Jersey.   While we were talking he asked what I was doing this weekend so I explained about Barb and going to NYC.  As it turns out he was heading into the city on Friday night as well with his friend Jay to meet up with some other friends of theirs for dinner.

To make this long story a bit shorter, we all ended up staying in NYC and meeting up after our earlier evening events and then going out to some bars and clubs until way to late at night.  I share this story because I always find it interesting who you meet and where you run into them.  Owning the B&B just intensifies that.

Saturday we got up and went our separate ways.  I went down to the site of the world trade center because I hadn't been there in a while.  It still sends a chill up my spine.  What they are building there now though looks like it will be amazing.  Aside from some window shopping, I did want to mention an incredibly memorable meal.   I had dinner at a restaurant near Times Square called Becco.  This is one of the best Italian restaurants I've eaten at.   Its on 46th street between 8th and 9th Ave.  All I can say is try it and get the pasta.

So yes, my life does revolve around food and good times with friends.
