There's never a nurse when you need one
Category Atlantic City Lodging Hotels Bed and Breakfast Inns Groups Reunions
Not true at The Carisbrooke Inn! We had one of our favorite reunion groups here about two weeks ago. They are a group of nurses, some of whom have known each other for more than 40 years, and have been getting together at The Carisbrooke Inn each fall for the past five years. I get very excited when they come each year. In some ways it's like having 15 mothers in the house (remember nurses are the ones who really take care of you when you are sick). Other times it is like having a house full of school girls. For me, nothing makes me happier than seeing people come to my inn and have a good time with each other. These ladies really do that and I am sad to see them leave each year. They probably think it's a lot of work, and it is, but what they don't know is their visits really energize me and refocus my head. They are just what I need to end my summer season with.

A little tradition has developed over the five years. My mother who is also a nurse (retired for quite a number of years now) also is a baker. She makes some of the most wonderful cookies. She always loved the idea of these ladies getting together like they do and from the first year brought down a big tray of her cookies for them to enjoy. Well, now every year she makes sure she had their dates of stay, well in advance so she can plan her cookie baking process. She wants to be absolutely sure the "nurses" have their cookies. It is really a labor of love for my mom. She really hardly bakes too much anymore (not at all like she used to) but for the nurses she makes sure she finds the time and the energy each year. That's really the kind of person she is though -- always giving and never wanting to disappoint -- thanks mom!
So the nurses enjoy their cookies throughout their two or three days here, day and night. They enjoy the boardwalk, the casinos, some of our great local restaurants and more. Most of all they enjoy spending time with each other. I don't think our parlor ever gets used as much. I am already looking forward to their next visit which they have already scheduled.
To all the nurses out there: Thank You for what you do
