2010 ANDRÉ RIEU USA TOUR
The 2010 tour will be very special. Says Rieu: “Next year will be the ‘Celebration of Music Tour’. I always say that music is the most wonderful thing in the world. Music triggers emotions. I want to bring an ode to waltzes and polkas that bring joy, to romantic ballads and to many more beautiful melodies. It will be a very special night.”
Dutch violinist and conductor André Rieu succeeds in giving expression to that pleasant and unique atmosphere so characteristic of the music of Johann Strauss and other Viennese composers, presenting his concerts with a touch of humor and irresistible charm, thus adding an extra dimension and ensuring that the public will experience an unforgettable evening. Although the waltz rhythm is the rhythm of his life (according to André, one's heart beats in three-four time), he and his orchestra play a lot more than waltzes these days. During his concerts, André offers a great variety of classical and popular music appealing to every generation. Rieu is an avid supporter of public television. The relationship between PBS and Rieu dates back more than 15 years. “Public television is one of the few outlets nowadays where classical music receives the attention that it deserves”, states Rieu. “By making the best tickets available to their donors, I want to show my appreciation”.
André Rieu is the world’s most successful male touring artist of the first half of 2009, according to Billboard Magazine. The leading music industry publication has published an overview of the 25 best selling tours, and Rieu ranked number four. With 554,242 tickets sold and $57.4 million in gross revenue, only Madonna, Tina Turner and Britney Spears brought in more revenues. Billboard also ranked Rieu as the number one classical artist of 2008. Rieu’s recordings have gone platinum and gold in many countries around the world including eight-times platinum in the Netherlands.
