Setting new records is tiring and exhilarating

Two weeks ago I had more people in and through the b&b in one weekend than probably any other time in the history of the place.  By Sunday night, I had a regular guest check in and tell me "John, you look awful, what happened?".  I was exhausted, but it was a great weekend none the less and was a perfect example of why I love this business.

Keeping true to my nature of pushing the envelope, I schedule two large events on the same weekend.   Friday night and Saturday night I had a family rent the entire inn to attend  their son's wedding on Saturday.   Friday night we had the rehearsal dinner here.   Sunday afternoon I "loaned out" the inn to Liberty & Prosperity to do a fund-raising event.   In total I probably had 150 different people come through the inn over the 3 day period.

Friday afternoon, around 1:00PM the Britt family showed up in mass to check in.  They must be excellent coordinators because they all managed to arrive within 5 minutes of each other and for the first time ever we quite literally had a line out the door and down the steps with people waiting to check in.  They all arrived to have a fun filled weekend and to celebrate the nuptials of their son/brother/cousin Frank.  For anyone who does not know what nuptial means click here.    Frank is a good friend of the inn so we were very happy he chose to have his family here and his rehearsal dinner here.   By the time Friday rolled around, we affectionately were referring to him as Groomzilla!

Friday evening came along, the rehearsal went off without a hitch (we were told) and a group of about 50 arrived at the inn for a casual rehearsal dinner.   Folks were spread out on our front decks, the rooms on the first floor and our back patio.  It was a very comfortable and enjoyable time for all.  I was very happy to see everything work out so well and glad that they all were able to have a great time.

As Sunday morning rolled around, after an eventful weekend for the group, and hearty breakfast buffet here, the Britt family collected their things and began to leave us.

Just as they were leaving the ladies fromLiberty and Prosperity arrived to begin setting up for their fund-raiser.   This organization decided to hold their first high end fund-raiser her at my inn and I was proud to have them here.   They drew a crowd of about 75 people and again were spread out around the inn.   It was a long and invigorating day.    It also happened to be a very hot day and I was glad to see my new central air conditioning system was able to keep up with the extreme heat and the large number of people.

In retrospect this was a perfect weekend.  The Carisbrooke Inn is not just an old house, nor is it just a B&B.   The Carisbrooke Inn is truly a place for families to meet, for friends to enjoy good times, for the community to meet and be productive, and for couples to create memories together.   I had the chance to see all of this happen in one weekend and that is why I am in this business and that is why The Carisbrooke Inn exists.  I thank all of my guests, past and present, my customers, my family and my friends for all taking part in creating and maintaining The Carisbrooke Inn.
