The worlds largest organ?

Category :

Being relatively new to Atlantic City, I am always surprised at the incredibly rich history we have here.  Along with our World Famous Boardwalk, and of course the infamous Monopoly board, I learned very recently we are home to the largest pipe organ in the world.  It i located in Boardwalk Halland unfortunately in need of quite a bit of repair.   Apparently during its hey day, it was quite a site to see (or hear).   I now have learned there are two groups involved in trying to resurrect these treasures, the Atlantic City Convention Hall Organ Society (ACCHOS), and the Historic Organ Restoration Committee.  For more information, take a look at this article that was recently in the Press of Atlantic City.   If you have never heard a real pipe organ, try this video of the National Anthem being played on the pipe organ at the John Wanamaker building in Philadelphia.

Relaxing at the Spa

I had the most wonderful tour and meeting today with Vivian Mannino, Spa Sales Manager at the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa  in Galloway, NJ.  Vivian was kind enough to give me a tour and describe the incredible list of services they have to offer.  All I can say is I did not want to leave.  I wanted to forget I was in a meeting and just sign up for some of the services and relax the day away.

There's never a nurse when you need one

Not true at The Carisbrooke Inn! We had one of our favorite reunion groups here about two weeks ago. They are a group of nurses, some of whom have known each other for more than 40 years, and have been getting together at The Carisbrooke Inn each fall for the past five years. I get very excited when they come each year. In some ways it's like having 15 mothers in the house (remember nurses are the ones who really take care of you when you are sick). Other times it is like having a house full of school girls. For me, nothing makes me happier than seeing people come to my inn and have a good time with each other. These ladies really do that and I am sad to see them leave each year. They probably think it's a lot of work, and it is, but what they don't know is their visits really energize me and refocus my head. They are just what I need to end my summer season with.

Exciting Things at The Shore This Fall

Wow, It's hard to believe September is over and we're half way through October.   I've been a bit lax in keeping up with my blog.   Between trying to catch up with things from the summer and now all the economic turmoil it's hard to decide what to do first when I get up in the morning.   The economy certainly gives us all some reason for some pause.  We all hate uncertainty, especially me.  I hope, though we can all look past this turbulent time, because it will pass and we will come out beetter in the long run.

So, I received a reallly interesting press release a few days back.   It seems Guy Fieri, from the food networks Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, will be doing his show from Pistol Petes steak house in Pleasntville, very near here on October 25th.   Since I'm a food enthusiast (anyone who knows me knows I'm very enthusiastic about food and drink for that matter), I am planning to attend and wanted to let those who read my blog know about this fun event.  Details are below and I have decide to provide a special rate at the inn for anyone who wants to get out and partake in this fun evening.   Lets face it with all the turmoil around us, sometimes all we have is good food, good friends and good times.

Tis the end of summer...

Tis the end of summer as I am observing the coming storm Hanna. There is light rain and light winds at this point.  All deck chairs and umbrellas have been removed or tied down in anticipation of the storm.  It is gray outside, but here inside the Inn, it is calm, relaxing and very cool.  The music is playing softly and one can look out the window at the rain drops.  It is actually quite peaceful.

A day at the beach!

Yes, I do sneak out to the beach from time to time.  In fact this past week, I went all day Wednesday.   It was the date of the Atlantic City Air show.  I think there were more people on the beach and boardwalk that day than I have ever seen.    It was a spectacular day on the beach and a perfect day to watch the skies.

Amazing Paintings

Normally I never mention guests by name to maintain privacy, but for this entry I am thankful I have permission to do so.   One of my long time guests,  Linda Mann, who is from Ventnor originally is an artist.   I had known this for a while, probably from brief conversation at happy hour or in passing during one of her visits.   What I found out this past visit was how amazing her paintings are and how talented she is.  You can see her paintings at her web site at LindaMann.com

Setting new records is tiring and exhilarating

Two weeks ago I had more people in and through the b&b in one weekend than probably any other time in the history of the place.  By Sunday night, I had a regular guest check in and tell me "John, you look awful, what happened?".  I was exhausted, but it was a great weekend none the less and was a perfect example of why I love this business.
