Amazing Paintings

Normally I never mention guests by name to maintain privacy, but for this entry I am thankful I have permission to do so.   One of my long time guests,  Linda Mann, who is from Ventnor originally is an artist.   I had known this for a while, probably from brief conversation at happy hour or in passing during one of her visits.   What I found out this past visit was how amazing her paintings are and how talented she is.  You can see her paintings at her web site at LindaMann.com

Setting new records is tiring and exhilarating

Two weeks ago I had more people in and through the b&b in one weekend than probably any other time in the history of the place.  By Sunday night, I had a regular guest check in and tell me "John, you look awful, what happened?".  I was exhausted, but it was a great weekend none the less and was a perfect example of why I love this business.

The Russians are here (and a lot of other people too)

I always know summer has started when my foreign interns show up.   This year I have 2 students from Russia who will be helping out all summer.   The Carisbrooke Inn is becoming quite an international spot these days.    Besides my Russian Students, I still have help from Poland and in the past month have had guests from Italy, England, Canada, France, Russia, Poland, and Tanzania.   I might just have to start hanging flags out like the United Nations.

What happened to April (and May for that matter)

The life of an innkeeper is crazy to begin with but this year it seems especially crazy for me.   Between family, friends, and renovations that didn't seem like they would end, as well as very strong business this spring I sometimes don't know if I'm coming or going.    Actually I have been truly blessed with family and friends and good business.  It is true however, that I woke up the other day and wondered what happened to the month of April.   We actually did have a lot of exciting things go on the past 6 weeks.  We snuck in the renovation of another bathroom, we had a civil union, and had a great birthday/graduation party that we hosted for a wonderful family here.

Finally, two and a half months later the renovations are starting to wind down. For those guests who stayed here while we were renovating, thank you for your business and for your patience with the extra noise and my lack of attention. To all past and potential future guests all I can say is Wow! This new room on the third floor is spectacular and much nicer than I ever imagined it would be.

An awesome meal at The Palm

So, to continue with my current track of the benefits of being an innkeeper, here's another one.  In Atlantic City and Ventnor we have a lot of great organizations for networking, learning and community involvement.   One of these organizations is the Greater Atlantic City Concierge Association which helps people on the front line with customers keep up to date with what's going on in the city, and places to eat and other attractions.  This past week we were invited to be guests of The Palm restaurant at The Quarter in the Tropicana.

The Innkeeper is Out (yes I do escape the B&B from time to time)

One of the great things about owning and running a B&B is all the great people you meet.  Sometimes some of these people end up becoming great friends.  One of these former B&B guests and now friends invited me to her birthday celebration in New York City this past weekend.  The world is a small place and its funny how things happen sometimes.

Wine Tasting Carisbrooke Style

We ended another great year with our third annual wine tasting dinner. All I can say is this event just gets better and better every year and is a great example of why I love owning this business. There are not too many jobs out there where you get to organize an event where the purpose is for people to have fun and relax. In the end everyone had an incredible time. I can't wait for next year's event.
